Support our strike: events coming up

Day 4

A gloriously sunny end to our first week of strike action. Again the mood was buoyant on the picket lines, with more and more staff turning up each day and bringing their families and pets along to meet us. It was a pleasure to have our second dog, Cosmos, at the Clapham Centre picket today. Meanwhile further chaos reigned inside the college with classes closing across all departments. The Brixton Centre looks to be completely closed.

Here are some upcoming events where we need your support!

Saturday 7th June

NOAM (1) (1)

March in solidarity with Hackney Community College – our struggle is the whole FE sector’s struggle, please come and support workers at our sister college :

Hackney College has suffered a 25% budget cut in the last 4 years.  This has resulted in course closures, job cuts and has left our community with less choice, limited routes into HE and less chance of anything but minimum wage employment.
On June 7th staff, students and members of the public will be taking this to the heart of our community in a march from Hackney College to Gillet Sq in Dalston.   We are marching for fair funding for FE, for our students’ futures and against staff cuts.
March for quality education for everyone, not just the elite
Fair funding for FE
March against coalition cuts
Protest against redundancies
Sat 07 June, 12.00.  Hackney Community College, Falkirk Street, N1 6HQ.

Tuesday 10th June

  • We are sending a delegation to support the NUT parliamentary rally – over 1000 people are expected, come and join in!

  • Joint rally outside Clapham campus to celebrate the Lambeth College Unison branch joining the strike action. Unison members are facing the same threat to their conditions as UCU members and will be joining the strike on the 11th and 12th June.

Thursday 12th June

  • Joint UCU/Unison indoor rally with children’s activities, speakers, tea and coffee. – venue TBA
